WEBSTER - Prior to Tuesday's open house, officials held a ribbon-cutting for the $43.3 million Park Avenue Elementary School, a project about six years in the making, begun when the district was invited to do a study in 2009.

School Superintendent Barbara Malkas said the school should be referred to as a college on the hill.

"The town of Webster has made the commitment to build a school worthy of looking like a college edifice for our youngest students," Mrs. Malkas said. "That is our hope for the future. That’s what we want to see for every child who’ll walk through these doors," beginning with Wednesday's first day of school.
