CTA Construction Awarded $35.5 Million Contract for Dept. of Transportation Project in Worcester

New state-of-the-art DOT administration building to feature energy efficient solar panels, LED lighting and more

Worcester, Mass. (September 15, 2017) – CTA Construction announced today it has been selected to manage the construction of a new Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) administration building in Worcester. The $35.5 million construction and relocation project is set on a 10.5 acre parcel on Plantation Parkway. Construction is slated to begin in August and should take about 21 months.

“CTA Construction is thrilled to have been chosen for this important new Department of Transportation project,” said Jeff Hazelwood, Principal at CTA Construction. “We’re looking forward to getting to work and delivering a state-of-the art, net zero administrative building that meets the needs of employees working there while also incorporating the latest in efficient, green technology.”

The new District 3 Administration Building will replace the existing facility, which was built in 1950. Once complete, it will feature four stories with upper and lower parking lots. Solar panels will produce the required energy to fuel the building, including heating and cooling, lighting and computer equipment. The project also contains additional energy efficient features such as LED lighting, low flow plumbing fixtures, triple pane windows, additional insulation in the walls and roof and premium efficient heating and air conditioning systems.

The new facility will be constructed into an existing hill and will involve extensive blasting, excavation and ledge removal.
