School Administration Moves To Completed North Middlesex Regional High School

Staff and faculty begin transitioning to new home in preparation for Fall 2017 school year

Townsend, MA. (July 27, 2017) – Administrators and district staff for the North Middlesex Regional School District were granted a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy earlier this month, allowing them to formally begin moving in to their new home. The move comes as Waltham-based CTA Construction places the finishing touches on a regional high school years in the making. Construction on the school, which will serve students from Ashby, Pepperell, and Townsend, began in the spring of 2015 and will be fully utilized by the staff and students at the start of the Fall 2017 school year.

“We have been keeping the administration, teachers, and students updated on the progress of construction throughout the year, but we know the school doesn’t feel ‘real’ for some until they can walk through it and set up classrooms and offices,” said Jeff Hazelwood, a Principal at CTA Construction who has overseen the project. “It has been really gratifying to see the administration finally able to set up shop in their new home. We can’t wait for the students and teachers to be able to walk through it as well in the weeks to come.”

The new school will replace the existing regional high school, which will be demolished on a rolling basis as students settle in to their new home. The abatement and demolition process began on July 17th. At 180,530 sq ft, the new facility will feature state of the art classrooms and amenities, including a 575-seat auditorium and a technologically advanced climate-control system that takes full advantage of the many eco-friendly and energy-saving elements involved in its construction. A special informative display in the cafeteria will provide students with a visual diagram of the school’s energy use at various times. The overall construction budget for the school is $65,000,000.

In addition to the building itself, CTA Construction is spearheading the construction of a variety of amenities on the 50-acre site, including 350 parking spaces and parking for 12 school buses, a 6/8 lane track, a main football/multipurpose field, bleachers, press box and lavatory building. The project will also include rebuilding/restoration of existing fields, and new septic system. Work on the South Side Parking lot has already begun and is expected to be completed before the start of the school year.
