CTA Construction utilized modular building methods to construct this 95-unit, four-story, 91,000 sf senior housing facility for the Somerville Housing Authority. The project involves the demolition and removal of eight existing two-story residences and a one-story community building, as well as extremely complex site improvements that include paving, curbing, landscaping and site furnishings. The new construction consists of 95 prefabricated one-bedroom apartments and support spaces, foundations, water and sewage systems, HVAC, fire protection, site utilities and improvements, and landscaping within the project site. The project also required the relocation of an existing 60-inch MWRA water main that ran through the new building footprint. This development is a high profile project that has national, state and local support and has been termed “a model method” of utilizing public and private resources.
