The new Fort River Elementary School building project, located at 70 South East Street,
will replace the 1970’s vintage Fort River School. The new school is constructed on a
play field area south of the existing Fort River School and accommodates 575 Grade
K-5 students in a new three story, steel frame,105,750 GSF Net Zero building. The
existing Fort River School remains operational on the site while the new school building
is constructed. Once the new building and adjacent site construction is completed and
occupied, the existing Fort River School will be demolished, and parking and playfields
constructed. The site is 31.5 acres and is bounded by a residential neighborhood to the
north and west and the Fort River to the east and is subject to Conservation Commission
requirements. Contract work includes both building and canopy mounted photovoltaic
panels and a ground source heat pump HVAC system utilizing approximately 85 wells.
