The Melrose Fire Engine 2 project represents a critical investment in the modernization of public safety infrastructure in the City of Melrose, Massachusetts. Located on Tremont Street, the project involves the demolition of the existing West Side fire station and construction of a new, purpose-built facility designed to support current and future operational needs of the Melrose Fire Department. The existing station, originally constructed in 1929, no longer provides sufficient space, functionality, or building systems required for contemporary emergency response operations. The new fire station is 24,000 square feet and will feature three modern apparatus bays, along with a dedicated maintenance bay to support long-term fleet readiness. Expanded administrative areas, firefighter living quarters, training spaces, and fitness facilities will provide improved operational efficiency and enhanced working conditions for first responders. The design also incorporates specialized spaces such as a decontamination suite and accessible public amenities that reflect evolving health, safety, and community engagement priorities.
