This project is the gut renovation of the 27,000 sf Dudley Square Branch of the Boston Public Library. This branch opened in 1978. The renovation includes hazardous materials abatement, removal of an underground oil tank, new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, and a new elevator with masonry elevator shaft. The exterior includes a new aluminum and wood framed curtainwall with insulating glass that will replace the majority of the existing glass block cladding. The existing exposed exterior concrete frame will be cleaned.

Interior finishes include new resilient flooring, gypsum board and metal stud partitions and suspended gypsum board and acoustical tile ceilings. The main reading room includes millwork and quartz countertops. The renovations also include new bathrooms and a demonstration kitchen with gas cooktops, wall ovens, refrigerator, dishwasher, exhaust hood, cabinets, kitchen island and countertop. Site work includes underground storm water detention chambers, concrete sidewalks, a raised terrace with scored concrete paving and concrete unit pavers, new wood benches and granite stair treads. The project won 2021 AIA / AIA Design Award & 2021 Boston Preservation Alliance Preservation Achievement Award.
